The Platters – You’ll Never Know
Numai locul 11 pentru piesa “You’ll never know” a trupei The Platters, insa un stil si un sound inconfudabil, principalii responsabili fiind atat solistul principal Tony Williams, cat si compozitorul si managerul trupei Buck Ram.
(You’ll never know)
You’ll never, never know I care
You’ll never know the torch I bear
You’ll never know it, for I won’t show it
Oh, no, you’ll never, never know
(You’ll never know)
You’ll never, never see me cry
Not even when you’re glancing by
For I won’t weaken, when we’re speaking
Oh, no, you’ll never, never know
You’ll know the used to me
That I was before
You’ll see the used to be
That one you did adore
(You’ll never know)
No, no I know I won’t reveal
The way I really truely feel
But if you guess it
I’ll confess it
Oh, darling now the time to plot
Or else you’ll never, never know
You’ll know the used to me
That I was before
You’ll see the used to be
That one you did adore
(You’ll never know)
No, no I know I won’t reveal
The way I really truely feel
But if you guess it
I’ll confess it
Oh, darling now the time to plot
Or else you’ll never
No, no you’ll never
Oh, no you’ll never, ever know
(You’ll never know)
The Platters – Harbor Lights
“Harbor Lights” a fost compus in 1937 de Hugh Williams si relansat in 1950. Hitul a fost interpretat de nume mari precum: Bing Crosby, Elvis Presley, Sammy Kaye. Versiunea doo-wop din 1960 a grupului The Platters atingea locul 8 in topul american Billboard, fiind ultima piesa a trupei care intra in primele 10 pozitii ale acestui clasament muzical.
I saw the harbor lights
They only told me we were parting
The same old harbor lights that once brought you to me
I watched the harbor lights
How could I help if tears were starting
Goodbye to tender nights beside the silv’ry sea
I long to hold you near and kiss you just once more
But you were on the ship and I was on the shore
Now I know lonely nights
For all the while my heart is whisp’ring
Some other harbor lights will steal your love from me
I long to hold you near and kiss you just once more
But you were on the ship and I was on the shore
Now I know lonely nights
For all the while my heart is whisp’ring
Some other harbor lights will steal your love from me
The Platters – My Serenade
The Platters sunt singurii artisti cu 3 piese pe coloana sonora a filmului American Graffiti si prima trupa rock and roll care a avut un album clasat in primele 10 albume din acea perioada in Statele Unite ale Americii. In 1990 formatia primea includerea in Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. “My Serenade” este o prelucrare a Serenadei lui Franz Schubert, scrisa in 1826, o linie melodica plina de gratie si o frumusete care nu oboseste sa incante.
My serenade begins in the night
Plays the strings of my heart
My serenade becomes a delight
Your kisses help play the part
Sweet and strong love plays it soft
And our hearts begin to glow
As it plays our serenade
It’s music with thrill to love
This is my serenade
My serenade, my serenade
This is my serenade
My serenade
The Platters – Smoke Gets In Your Eyes
“Smoke gets in your eyes” este o prelucrare a unei piese scrisa inca din 1933 pentru opereta Roberta si lansata de formatia The Platters in 1958.
They asked me how I knew
My true love was true
Oh, I of course replied
Something here inside cannot be denied
They said someday you’ll find
All who love are blind
Oh, when your heart’s on fire
You must realize
Smoke gets in your eyes
So I chaffed them and I gaily laughed
To think they could doubt my love
Yet today my love has flown away
I am without my love
Now laughing friends deride
Tears I can not hide
Oh, so I smile and say
When a lovely flame dies
Smoke gets in your eyes
Smoke gets in your eyes
The Platters – Remember When
The Platters se infiintau in 1953 manager fiind Buck Ram. Grupul a suferit modificari in ceea ce priveste componenta trupei. In perioada marilor hituri inceputa in 1955 cu “Only you” membrii trupei erau: Herb Reed – solist, Tony Williams, David Lynch, Paul Robi, Herb Reed si Zola Taylor – backing vocals. Activitatea trupei a continuat pana in 1967, piesa “Remember When” fiind lansata in 1959.
The platters au fos inclusi in Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990, in Vocal Group Hall of Fame 1998 si in Hit Parade Hall of Fame in 2009.
Remember when (dah-doot-doo-doo) I first met you (dah-doot-doo-doo)
My lips were so afraid to say “I love you”
Remember when (dah-doot-doo-doo), to my surprise (dah-doot-doo-doo)
The heaven in my heart leaped into your eyes
Remember how much I cried
Tears of joy to think you were mine
Darling, down deep inside
I still feel that feeling divine
I loved you then (dah-doot-doo-doo) and I still do (dah-doot-doo-doo)
I can’t remember when I didn’t love you
Remember how much I cried
Tears of joy to think you were mine
Darling, down deep inside
I still feel that feeling divine
I loved you then and I still do
I can’t remember when I didn’t love you
The Platters – Only You
Only you can make oh this world seem right
Only you can make the darkness bright
Only you and you alone
Can thrill me like you do
And fill my heart with love for only you
Only you can make oh this change in me
For it’s true you are my destiny
When you hold my hand I understand
The magic that you do
You’re my dream come true
My one and only you
Only you can make this change in me
For it’s true you are my destiny
When you hold my hand I understand
The magic that you do
You’re my dream come true
My one and only you
The Platters – The Great Pretender
Oh-oh, yes I’m the great pretender
Pretending that I’m doing well
My need is such I pretend too much
I’m lonely but no one can tell
Oh-oh, yes I’m the great pretender
Adrift in a world of my own
I’ve played the game but to my real shame
You’ve left me to grieve all alone
Too real is this feeling of make-believe
Too real when I feel what my heart can’t conceal
Yes I’m the great pretender
Just laughin’ and gay like a clown
I seem to be what I’m not, you see
I’m wearing my heart like a crown
Pretending that you’re still around
Too real is this feeling of make-believe
Too real when I feel what my heart can’t conceal
Yes I’m the great pretender
Just laughin’ and gay like a clown
I seem to be what I’m not, you see
I’m wearing my heart like a crown
Pretending that you’re still around.
The Platters – Twilight Time
Heavenly shades of night are falling, it’s twilight time
Out of the mist your voice is calling, ’tis twilight time
When purple-colored curtains mark the end of day
I’ll hear you, my dear, at twilight time
Deepening shadows gather splendor as day is done
Fingers of night will soon surrender the setting sun
I count the moments darling till you’re here with me
Together at last at twilight time
Here, in the afterglow of day, we keep our rendezvous beneath the blue
And, in the same and sweet old way I fall in love again as I did then
Deep in the dark your kiss will thrill me like days of old
Lighting the spark of love that fills me with dreams untold
Each day I pray for evening just to be with you
Together at last at twilight time
Here, in the afterglow of day, we keep our rendezvous beneath the blue
And, in the same and sweet old way I fall in love again as I did then
Deep in the dark your kiss will thrill me like days of old
Lighting the spark of love that fills me with dreams untold
Each day I pray for evening just to be with you
Together at last at twilight time
Together at last at twilight time
