Piesa doo-wop “Stay” fusese scrisa inca din 1953 de Maurice Williams pe cand acesta avea numai 15 ani si era inspirata dintr-o intamplare reala cand incerca sa-si convinga partenera sa nu incheie intalnirea la 10 seara.
Abia in 1960 s-a realizat inregistrarea cantecului care a fost cea mai scurta melodie care ajungea pe primul loc in topul american insa dupa o saptamana era detronat de Elvis Presley cu “Are You Lonesome Tonight?”. Includerea cantecului pe coloana sonora a filmului “Dirty Dancing” din 1987 a generat vanzari mai mari decat in perioada lansarii single-ului.
