Chuck Berry – Rock And Roll Music

Chuck Berry s-a numarat printre primii muzicieni care au primit includerea in Muzeul Rock and Roll Hall of Fame la deschiderea acestuia in 1986. Artistul a fost recunoscut ca unul dintre cei care a inovat si transformat stilul rhythm and blues in ceea ce avea sa devina muzica rock and roll. “Rock and roll music” era un hit al anului 1957 si totodata poate fi considerat un manifest muzical al cantaretului si al muzicii rock and roll.

Just let me hear some of that
Rock and roll music,
Any old way you choose it;
It’s got a back beat, you can’t lose it,
Any old time you use it.
It’s gotta be rock and roll music,
If you want to dance with me,
If you want to dance with me.

I’ve got no kick againt modern jazz,
Unless they try to play it too darn fast;
And change the beauty of the melody,
Until they sounded like a symphony,
That’s why I go for that
Rock and roll music …

I took my loved one over cross the tracks
So she can hear my man await a sax,
I must admit the have a rockin’ band,
Man they were going like a hurricane
That’s why I go for that
Rock and roll music …..

Way down south they gave a jubilee,
The jockey folks they had a jamboree,
They’re drinkin’ homebrew from a water cup,
The folks dancin’ they all got shook up
And started playin’ that
Rock and roll music ….

Don’t care to hear ‘em play a tango,
I’m in the mood to dig a mambo;
It’s way to early for a congo,
So keep a rockin’ that piano
So I can hear some of that
Rock and roll music …

Chuck Berry – Maybellene

“Maybellene” (1955) este primul hit al lui Chuck Berry, unul dintre pionierii rock and roll, despre care revista Rolling Stones afirma ca de aici incepe chitara rock and roll. Piesa este inspirata dintr-un cantec traditional american cu autor necunoscut.

Maybellene, why can’t you be true?
Oh maybellene, why can’t you be true?
You’ve started back doing the things you used to do.

As I was motivatin’ over the hill
I saw maybellene in a coup de ville.
A cadillac a-rollin’ on the open road,
Nothin’ will outrun my v8 ford.
The cadillac doin’ ’bout ninety-five,
She’s bumper to bumber rollin’ side by side.

Maybellene, why can’t you be true?
Oh maybellene, why can’t you be true?
You’ve started back doing the things you used to do.

Pink in the mirror on top of the hill,
It’s just like swallowin’ up a medicine pill.
First thing I saw that cadillac grille
Doin’ a hundred and ten gallopin’ over that hill.
Offhill curve, a downhill strecth,
Me and that cadillac neck by neck.

Maybellene, why can’t you be true?
Oh maybellene, why can’t you be true?
You’ve started back doing the things you used to do.

The cadillac pulled up ahead of the ford,
The ford got hot and wouldn’t do no more.
It then got clody and it started to rain,
I tooted my horn for a passin’ lead
The rain water blowin’ all under my hood,
I knew that was doin’ my motor good.

Maybellene, why can’t you be true?
Oh maybellene, why can’t you be true?
You’ve started back doing the things you used to do.

The motor cooled down, the heat went down
And that’s when I heard that highway sound.
The cadillac a-sittin’ like a ton of lead
A hundred and ten a half a mile ahead.
The cadillac lookin’ like it’s sittin’ still
And I caught maybellene at the top of the hill.

Maybellene, why can’t you be true?
Oh maybellene, why can’t you be true?
You’ve started back doing the things you used to do.

Deep down Louisiana close to New Orleans
Way back up in the woods among the evergreens
There stood a log cabin made of earth and wood
Where lived a country boy named Johnny B. Goode
Who never ever learned to read or write so well
But he could play the guitar just like a ringing a bell

Go go
Go Johnny go
Go
Go Johnny go
Go
Go Johnny go
Go
Go Johnny go
Go
Johnny B. Goode

He used to carry his guitar in a gunny sack
Go sit beneath the tree by the railroad track
Oh, the engineerswould see him sitting in the shade
Strumming with the rhythm that the drivers made
People passing by they would stop and say
Oh my that little country boy could play

Go go
Go Johnny go
Go
Go Johnny go
Go
Go Johnny go
Go
Go Johnny go
Go
Johnny B. Goode

His mother told him “Someday you will be a man,
And you will be the leader of a big old band.
Many people coming from miles around
To hear you play your music when the sun go down
Maybe someday your name will be in lights
Saying Johnny B. Goode tonight.”

Go go
Go Johnny go
Go go go Johnny go
Go go go Johnny go
Go go go Johnny go
Go
Johnny B. Goode

I’m gonna write a little letter,
Gonna mail it to my local DJ.
Yeah an’ it’s a jumpin’ little record
I want my jockey to play.
Roll Over Beethoven, I gotta hear it again today.

You know, my temperature’s risin’
The jukebox’s blowin’ a fuse.
My heart’s beatin’ rhythm
And my soul keeps a-singin’ the blues.
Roll Over Beethoven and tell Tschaikowsky the news.

I got the rockin’ pneumonia,
I need a shot of rhythm and blues.
I caught the rollin’ arthiritis
Sittin’ down at a rhythm review.
Roll Over Beethoven they’re rockin’ in two by two.

Well, if you feelin’ like it
Go get your lover, then reel and rock it.
Roll it over and move on up just
A trifle further and reel and rock with it,
Roll it over,
Roll Over Beethoven, dig these rhythm and blues.

Well, early in the mornin’ I’m a-givin’ you a warnin’
Don’t you step on my blue suede shoes.
Hey diddle diddle, I am playin’ my fiddle,
Ain’t got nothin’ to lose.
Roll Over Beethoven and tell Tschaikowsky the news.

You know she wiggles like a glow worm,
Dance like a spinnin’ top.
She got a crazy partner,
Ya oughta see ‘em reel and rock.
Long as she got a dime the music wont never stop.

Roll Over Beethoven,
Roll Over Beethoven,
Roll Over Beethoven,
Roll Over Beethoven,
Roll Over Beethoven, dig these rhythm and blues.

Chuck Berry – Run Rudolph Run

“Daca ai incerca sa gasesti rock and roll-ului alt nume, ai putea sa-i zici Chuck Berry”. (John Lennon) N-a fost un mare hit cu clasari inalte in topuri la momentul aparitiei in 1958, insa “Run Rudolph run” are cea energie si bucurie care-i caracterizeaza pe toti copii in preajma Craciunului.

Cateva cuvinte de la inventatorul rock and roll-ului, la 75 de ani, pentru Esquire.

Out of all the reindeer you know you’re the mastermind
Run, run Rudolph, Randalph’s not too far behind
Run, run Rudolph, Santa’s got to make it to town
Randalph he can hurry, he can take the freeway down
And away went Rudolph a whizzing like a merry-go-round

Said Santa to a boy child “What have you been longing for?”
“All I want for Christmas is a Rock and Roll electric guitar”
And away went Rudolph a whizzing like a shooting star

Run, run Rudolph, Santa’s got to make it to town
Can’t you make him hurry, tell him he can take the freeway down
And away went Rudolph a whizzing like a merry-go-round

Said Santa to a girl child “What would you like most to get?”
“I want a little baby doll that can cry, scream and wet”
And away went Rudolph a whizzing like a Saber jet

Run, run Rudolph, run, run Rudolph, a running like a son-of-a-gun.
